Welcome to Step 3! I hope your day is going well.
Moving forward you are going to see exciting results, just remember to stick with the plan, ask questions, believe and take action!
The best, most efficient way to create success online is quite obvious... You're going to need a website...
It's much easier than you think getting started with your own. After creating your first one and becoming familiar with the process, any new projects you would like to take on will become a breeze!
Creating A Free Website
Now that you have you niche picked out (if not, further examples below), it's time to get you website up and running. When just starting out this can be quite scary for any beginner, but there is no need to worry...
Website Builders have come a long way in recent years. Now anyone can do it regardless of their experience.
You are not going to be coding together a website from scratch. With website builders like Wordpress, the process is now done with a few simple clicks.
Getting Niche Ideas
One of yesterday's tasks was to visit Amazon.com and search related items to your niche. If you're still having trouble deciding, well you can still use Amazon to help you discover one. Just simply start with an interest...
Then use their large database to help you narrow it down a bit into a more targeted niche.
For example, if you're into camping and being in the great outdoors, some targeted niches within this area would be:
- Camping furniture
- Camping tents
- Sleeping bags
- GPS trackers/Two-way radios
- Hunting knives
Each are actually doable, targeted niches in which you can create a successful website. Starting to get the idea?
There's seriously a lot of ideas you can come up with just by giving Amazon.com a visit. Once there just hover over 'Shop by Department', find something that interests you, and dig a little deeper by visiting some of the subcategories!
Don't panic if you can't find the perfect niche....just start somewhere.
Once you get familiar with the training and websites, niche ideas will start flowing in on a daily basis. I know because this happened to me.
My first website was video games, again that's far too broad of a niche and I simply moved on after realizing so. (You can always contact me if you're still having trouble, I can help :)
You Have 2 Free Websites
As a WA Starter member, you have two free websites. Those are yours to utilize, experiment, and even create your first website with. If there's something you don't like about a particular website, you may delete it in the SiteRubix's SiteManager area and you will have 2 fresh new websites to work with again.
Eventually, you are going to want to purchase a domain name. Your free websites represent a subdomain, for example:
Your own domain is really your own little piece of property within the online world. I highly recommend getting your own, this will look like:
I recommend purchasing your own domain because:
- Looks more professional
- You own it
- You will rank better in search engines (Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc.)
- Won't be deleted by a host
- More freedom to do what you want with your website
- Usually can be purchased for about $10 per year
I don't know about you but facebook.com looks a whole lot better than facebook.siterubix.com!
Why A Free Website?
If you're just starting out and unsure about the direction you would like to take, I recommend using the free webhost to get things rolling. This way you can still get involved and start the learning process.
Besides if you choose to start over with another site, money will not have been wasted on purchasing a domain.
Choosing A Name
You of course are going to have to decide what to name your website. I visit this article by Kyle, one of WA's owners, every time before deciding on a domain name.
You can choose something brandable, or you can choose a keyword domain.
Remember your name is important. It will be a first impression to visitors so don't make it too awkward, long or hard to say or spell.
Hosting Your Website
If you buy a domain name, you will be responsible for the hosting. This can run you up some additional yearly costs, but if you are a premium Wealthy Affiliate member you will have access to unlimited web hosting at no additional cost to you.
This means you'll be able to host up to 50 websites if you want there for your $49 monthly membership price, as well as have access to everything else the community has to offer.
Check out this article on the benefits of hosting at Wealthy Affiliate.
Alternatively you could choose to buy a hosting package along with where you bought the domain at a place like Hostgator, Namecheap or GoDaddy - but you're not going to find the same level of security, speed, support and back-up that WA offers you with a cheap monthly hosting plan.
Yes, your website will be "live" on the internet after completing lessons 4 and 5 over at WA.
If you cannot finish both lessons for any reasons, DON'T STRESS IT. Simply just do one today and the next tomorrow :)
In 2 days, we will continue by covering Keywords. You're going to need some visitors to your website and keywords can be the answer. I have been able to create a successful business online due to keywords - a free way to attract actual people to your website.
