Online Jobs From Home For Students (The Struggle)

online jobs from home for students

I used to think searching for a legit job from home would be a piece of cake.

Find places who hired remote or home-based positions, check.

Apply to many, check.

Wait a few days for one to contact and hire you, not so simple.

It wasn’t until I actually forced myself to go through the process of finding an online, remote job, did I understand how much of a struggle it could be.

I even drew up a resume for the first time in 5 years, as I’ve been working from home as self-employed during this time.

Anyway, the process is not as simple as I thought it would be. But I did come across many helpful resources during my search.

Here’s what I encountered – and also what I believe to be the best online jobs from home for students.

Online Jobs From Home For Students

We’re going to share some best job positions for students and specific websites you may begin applying to if you find something of interest.

What makes these jobs the “best” for students is that some jobs offer a flexible work schedule, you can believe they are legitimate if we’re sharing them, and in some cases, they’re willing to work with those with little to no experience in entry-level positions.

OK. Here are the jobs.

Best Place To Find Online Jobs From Home

Two of my favorite employment websites are FlexJobs and AngelList.

FlexJobs

FlexJobs is a paid employment website meaning that they charge a monthly subscription fee for their service.

For about $14.95 per month or $49.95 a year, FlexJobs members get access to jobs which have been hand-screened and offer other tips to help you find the best remote position for you.

For many, the extra peace of mind you get by a company who hand-screens each employer and job posted is more than worth the fee. This way, you won’t have to worry about encountering any job scams.

AngelList

AngelList is a bit different from your typical job board website as it’s a website which fulfills the needs of job seekers and startup companies alike.

AngelList is a place for startup companies to offer jobs they need to be fulfilled. There are many jobs available and companies to work for too.

Some established and some just getting off the ground.

Another interesting thing I noticed was some places were hiring positions but instead of offering regular pay, they would offer 2% (or so) equity of the company.

Risky, but something to consider for those who don’t mind investing time for a potential large reward.

Check them out and see if any positions interest you.

Tutoring/Online Teacher

You can make a decent amount of money working online as a tutor either part-time or full-time.

How many hours you work is up to you, but here are some of our favorite websites that will pay you to become an online tutor:

As an online tutor, you can expect to work one on one with students in a virtual setting. Some equipment needed (like a webcam or whiteboard) may or may not be provided by the company you join.

Subjects that are commonly taught include just about anything and everything. From math, science, foreign languages, writing, elementary tutoring, you name it.

If you’ve got a passion for any subject, experience as a tutor, or just need the extra money, then online tutoring may be a good route for you.

Freelancing

Freelancing is another position that can be done part-time or even on a full-time basis.

And it can be done 100% online from home.

The term freelancing is very broad but some more common online freelancing roles include:

  • Article writing
  • Web design
  • Graphic design
  • Editing and proofreading
  • Marketing and sales
  • Transcription
  • Data entry
  • …many more

Two of my most favorite ways to earn money online, which can be done part-time and get results would include freelancing and affiliate marketing.

We created an entire post explaining how to make extra money online freelancing and with affiliate marketing, in depth.

Included is where you can get started with either for free using quality training.

Virtual Assistant

At the time of this writing, the average pay for virtual assistants is $15.63/hr.

If you’re working as a freelancing VA, you may be able to charge a higher rate especially if you bring a specific set of skills.

Common tasks involved for VA’s include:

  • Email & Calendar management
  • Performing certain tasks on social media
  • Writing
  • Handling phone calls
  • Data entry
  • Customer service
  • etc

The best sites to look for work as a virtual assistant are Fancy Hands, Priority VA, and Upwork.

You may need to create a profile, insert some of your skills and experience (if any), and apply for work in order to start.

Customer Service

Pay for online customer service reps average somewhere between $14-$20.

You can usually find an opening for this position on sites like Ziprecruiter and FlexJobs.

Requirements for this position usually include excellent communication skills, a reliable internet connection and landline, and a headset.

Proofreader + Editing

You can expect to proofread and edit books, websites, articles, documents, and more in order to receive pay as a proofreader and editor.

Conclusion

Above are a few online jobs from home for students that we recommend.

In most ideas shared above, there is no fee or investment necessary to get started and you may just find a position that you not only enjoy but is flexible enough to work with your schedule.
