Let’s get right into it.
How To Make Extra Money With A Blog
As a blogger, essentially you are making money through content creation, though there’s a bit more that goes into it if you plan on making money from your blog.
Whether you choose to write the content yourself or hire someone else to, content creation is key.
I once met an experienced blogger who said: “I make over $10,000 a month for writing about 4,000 words per day”.
What Is A Blog?
The term blog is short for weblog or web log. (Just like the term vlog is short for video log).
A lot of people get confused by the differences between a blog and a website when the real definition of a blog is a personal website.
One of the best ways I’ve heard the term blog explained is “blogs started out as online diaries really. People posted their thoughts and opinions.
And when you think about it not much has changed with blogs today – it’s just now they have evolved into much more than online diaries – they are now used for online business.
And since most websites are based on the WordPress platform – a website is now more often than not referred to as a blog. And vice versa.”
So know that we know what a blog is, let’s see which ways people are earning extra money blogging.
How To Earn Income Through Blogging
Advertising is one of the most common ways in which bloggers earn money through their efforts and they are fairly easy to put in place.
The most common ad network would have to be Google Adsense, though there are others such as Media.net, Chikita, and Infolinks.
Though ads are a simple means of earning with your blog, just realize it would take lots of traffic if you plan on earning a full-time income utilizing ads alone.
I’ve heard the argument that ads can be distracting to your readers, too many ads can slow your website down, and that they are just plain annoying.
On the other hand, there are those who make a nice living using ads as their main focus of monetization.
Other ad types include CPA, CPC, CPM, Sponsorships, and more.
As a blogger, you have the freedom to choose which ways of earning are most suitable for you and your site.
Sponsored posts, job boards – other advertising means
Affiliate marketing is a term I am sure you have heard of and essentially, you make commissions when you promote somebody else’s product or service.
This product or service can be owned by a company or an individual who will pay you usually for each sale.
I feel affiliate marketing is a great way to earn from your blog whether you are a beginner or are experienced.
We talk more about it in our post Can You Make Money With Affiliate Marketing?
Offering your own service is another option when it comes to earning extra money with a blog.
Coaching, for example, is a service you can offer through your blog.
Some other type of services would include:
- Web design
What type of service you offer will usually depend heavily on your niche.
What could you offer to help your readership? What type of service would make their lives better?
Another way bloggers make money is through the making and selling of their own products.
A few examples of products being sold by bloggers are ebooks, software, apps, online courses, books, merchandise.
Along with virtual products, there are also physical products which you can sell with your blog (merchandise, tshirts, etc).
Selling your own products is a very lucrative way to earning more with your blog.
The cost of putting together your own video course, or something similar, usually won’t cost much while you can charge hundreds of dollars for each person who enlists.
When it comes to putting together your own product that benefits others, expect to put in a lot of hard work and time upfront. But once you put it out there for others, you can continue earning from your product for months or years to come.
A not so common way for bloggers to earn more is through events.
When we say events, think of gatherings like summits or conferences.
Whether a large conference or a smaller meet-up, bloggers can earn this way by charging individuals an attendance fee or by finding a sponsor for the event.
Promoting An Offline Business
Blogs could also be used as a way to promote an offline business.
Having an online presence can be a great way to reach more local clients and to grow your business.
Very rarely have I seen bloggers supporting their blog through donations, but it is a method I have seen used.
Instead of using affiliate links, ads, or charging for a service, they will keep their content 100% free and accessible and rely on donations through places like Paypal or Patreon.
As someone who pays for all sorts of memberships offline (like Netflix) and online (business training, autoresponders, etc),
With a membership, you can charge someone to access your course, content, services, month after month to set yourself up for nice recurring income.
A couple of other memberships that I’ve personally paid for an exercise routine that can be done at home in just minutes each day, a cooking course, I have also paid for writers or copywriters often to help with content creation.
Just to give you some ideas of which kind of what you can charge memberships for.
Sell Your Blog
Something often overlooked is that you have the opportunity to sell your blog to others.
Many online business owners simply don’t have the time to start a new website but wish to create more income streams.
One way to do this is by acquiring more blogs. Preferably, websites that are already earning income.
A great place to sell your blog would be with EmpireFlippers.
