How Much To Start An Affiliate Marketing Website

how much to start an affiliate marketing website

It was 4 years ago when I was introduced to affiliate marketing.

Approximately one month after that, I got my first taste of “online income”.

It was a commission of about $10. And never looked back…

Since then, I began working full-time from my laptop and have helped many who were interested in getting started with affiliate marketing.

Or other ways in which they could earn from home.

Affiliate marketing is cost-friendly when it comes to starting an online business. (Compared to say, e-commerce like drop shipping).

So…

What are the costs involved?

How Much To Start An Affiliate Marketing Website

I’ve said it before and I will say it again.

Just about ANYONE can create a neat, professional looking website.

Creating a website which is actually profitable, however, is a completely different story.

I think we can agree most people reading this are interested in creating a profitable website, not toying around with one.

A profitable website takes a bit more know-how.

Which is why I recommend finding valuable training that can provide you with a proper game plan. Our best way to get started with affiliate marketing guide is free and an excellent place to start.

OK, let’s look at some costs starting with the bare necessities.

The Necessities

The absolute minimum you are going to need is a domain name and website hosting.

Domain Names

A domain name will cost you about $15 per year.

Hosting

You can find cheap hosting for less than $10 per month. Cheap hosting may get your website up and running but it may not be the most reliable, obviously.

You may luck out and find cheap hosting and have no issues.

But, why not get started with something reliable – and free.

Where To Get Free Hosting, Domain Name

As a member of Wealthy Affiliate, you can get hosting and choose a subdomain at no cost.

All you would need to do is create a Starter Account.

(Note: There’s an option for Premium membership. Consider joining Premium if you would like to host your own domain. In the meantime, a Starter Account will give you plenty of hands-on experience!)

I created a short video demonstrating how easy it is to create an affiliate website and giving you a peek into the Wealthy Affiliate platform.

Here’s how quickly you can build your own affiliate website today:

To wrap up the essentials, the basics of what you need to get started with your own affiliate marketing business are:

  1. A domain name
  2. Website hosting
  3. Website theme

You can find all of these within the Wealthy Affiliate platform along with training on how to properly set it all up.

As a Starter member.

Other Tools

Building and having your own website is a great start but there are other tools which can make the lives of affiliate marketers much easier.

Some tools I wouldn’t recommend early on like stock images (I’ll show you where to find free quality images), an email service provider, or premium SEO tools like ahrefs.

These things make more sense to invest in once you start making an income from your website or once you start to experience steady traffic.

Just my two cents.

Other tools can greatly benefit you now.

These are…

A Keyword Tool

There are free keyword research tools and then there are paid ones.

a monitor displaying keywords.

In my experience, paid tools 9 times out of 10 provide a better overall experience and just do more.

Keyword tools are used for keyword research.

We use keyword research to help us find profitable niches and to determine ways in which we can rank in search engines and drive traffic to our websites.

My favorite keyword tools would include Jaxxy (included with Wealthy Affiliate membership) KWFinder, and ahrefs.

Though there are lots more.

Search around, I’m sure you will find one you like and there are free trials for many of these tools.

Quality Images

While investing in stock images usually gives you more options, there are websites which provide free quality images.

Without images, your website is going to look bland, unprofessional, and could turn visitors away.

With free image sites like Pixabay, Pexels, and Unsplash, there’s no need to go without images.

You can simply download these images and use them on your website for free and without having to give any credits.

Email Marketing (Autoresponders)

As mentioned earlier, I would recommend investing in an email marketing provider, or autoresponder, once you start to experience traffic.

The point of having email marketing in place is to collect email addresses from website visitors.

If there is no one visiting, there are no emails to be collected.

Make sense?

Once you get to that point, I highly recommend investing in this marketing tool.

My favorite email marketing services would include Drip (awesomeness) and Aweber.

Training vs Self Taught

I once read “to know the road ahead, ask those coming back”.

If you’re serious about succeeding with an affiliate marketing website, then finding and following quality training is your best bet.

In the last 4 years that I’ve been doing this, I realize that you can probably learn this stuff on your own, but this could take more time than necessary.

Not to mention, you’re probably going to spin your wheels a lot which sadly is enough reason to make most give up.

Quality training can save you time, energy, money, and lots of questions while providing you with a clear game plan.

There are many places where you can learn affiliate marketing, but I recommend giving our free email series a try.

It takes you from A to Z from choosing a topic for your website to building a website to how to attract visitors.

Conclusion

The startup cost of an affiliate marketing website and business are fairly cheap in comparison to other business models.

While the profit margins can be great.

The overall cost of starting an affiliate website would be around $120/yr or less. Without training.

Though proper guidance and training is something you should seek out.

Yes, training will add to your expenses but it could very well be the difference in building a profitable online business and failing.

The right tools and training can make it all worth it.
