17 Good Ways To Make Money Online From Home

good ways to make money online from home

At EPO, we like to focus on ways in which people can earn a consistent paycheck from home using the internet. We’re talking real money that you can use to spend on bills, mortgage or rent, vacations, or whatever you like, month after month.

The easiest and best way to achieve consistent income online from home is by starting your own online business. A subject we touch more on just below.

Along with our recommendations for starting your own internet-based biz, we share other good ways to make money online from home.

17 Good Ways To Make Money Online From Home

Each and every item we have listed below are things you can get started on today.

While it’s recommended taking on just one new task at a time and focusing on that, if several ideas listed below jump out at you, feel free to take action on them.

Just realize that taking on more of these methods won’t always translate into more money. Some of the ideas below will produce the best results if you just focus on them alone.

Take freelancing for example, if interested in earning extra money as a freelancer, I would solely focus on offering my services here.

However, if surveys are more your interests, I would then recommend joining a few survey sites to maximize profits.

Just my two cents.

Here are 17 good ways to make money online from home.

Earn With Apps

1. ibotta

With ibotta, you simply download the app, shop at participating stores found within the app, take a photo of your receipt to redeem your cashback rewards, from there the cash is added to your ibotta account.

a mobile phone displaying apps

ibotta is one cash back programs out of many, but nevertheless, a good way to earn a bit of money while making purchases.

You will also notice various sales and discounts for stores in your area while using the app.

Cashback reward programs are beneficial to consumers and store owners alike.

Stores get a chance to advertise to customers, while customers get a chance to score some deals and receive cashback in the process.

Try ibotta here.

2. Ebates

Similar to ibotta, Ebates is a cashback rewards app. You can join here or read our full review on Ebates.

3. Uber or Lyft

By now, many of us have had some sort of connection with the two major rideshare services in Uber and Lyft.

Whether if you’ve seen it being advertised, became a driver, or have used their service as a rider, just about everyone is familiar with these two companies which makes it hard to leave it off the list.

Plus there is potential to earn as a rideshare driver. How much you earn depends on a lot of different factors.

Let’s hear from an experienced rideshare driver to get a better idea if Uber or Lyft will be a good fit for you in your search to make extra money:

4. Delivery for Postmates/DoorDash

Postsmates and Doordash are delivery services that will deliver takeout food, groceries, alcohol, or “whatever you can think of” straight to your home.

As a courier for either of these companies, you get the chance to earn money by being the one who delivers the goods to people’s homes.

Postmates and DoorDash operate in cities all throughout the US.

According to Postmates, couriers can earn up to $25 per hour.

How these businesses work is that the deliverer keeps 80% of the delivery fee while the company keeps the remaining 20%. Tips also play a factor into how much a courier earns.

5. Mobile Performance Meter

Mobile Performance Meter, by Embee Mobile,

With mobile performance meter, I’ve earned gift cards ranging from Applebees to Amazon to bass pro shop. Though a “free” occasional dinner is nice after earning enough points to claim a gift card, there is a trade-off.

Mobile performance meter monitors your phone’s activity. You can learn more about which data is being tracked on the website.

Each day you earn 10 points for doing virtually nothing but letting the app run in the background.

500 points is the minimum you will need to claim a $5 gift card, then there are 1000 points for $10 gift card, and so on.

Aside from letting the phone run into the background, you will be prompted to take a survey from time to time which is usually “worth” about 50 points.

This is a neat way to save up and claim some gift cards, but not going to earn you a whole lot.

Get Paid For Taking A Online Survey

Two survey sites we recommend are:

6. Swagbucks

We’ve done a full review on Swagbucks showing you how the site works and how much you can earn as they provide many different ways you can earn “Swagbucks”.

These Swagbucks are usually exchanged for gift cards to places like Amazon, Footlocker, popular fast food chains, and lots more.

We enjoy Swagbucks because it has a more modern feel to it than most competing sites and offers more than just the mundane task of taking surveys. You can earn by watching videos, searching the internet, shopping online, and even playing games.

Check out our full review for Swagbucks here.

7. Survey Club

Survey Club is a bit more traditional but another good way to earn online. They’ve been around since 2005 and have many satisfied participants.

get paid from online surveys

With Survey club, your job essentially is to:

“Find paid research opportunities in your area. Earn cash for participating in online surveys, private panels, focus groups, clinical trials, in-home usage tests, online bulletin boards, taste tests, and mystery shopping studies. SurveyClub will connect you with the best available paid research studies.”

I’ve always shared that surveys can be quite time-consuming and the pay is usually low.

On the other hand people like them for there ease of use and convenience. Sure the pay is low, but the work is simple.

Other good news is that it’s a great way for people who’ve never made money online to ‘test the waters’ and see that it is possible to receive payment solely using the internet.

it is still a good way for people to earn online and for those who have never made money on the internet, it could be a great way to ‘test the waters’ and to know that people are out there making real money, solely using the internet.

Sell Your Belongings

Unless you have a large number of things to sell, this obviously won’t earn you a regular income month after month as starting your own online business can.

Yet it is a way to make money from home online.

Many people even have their own stores set up within sites like Esty and eBay to help them earn a more regular income.

8. Etsy

If you’re not familiar with Etsy, it is an online marketplace where homemade items are usually sold.

9. eBay

As many of you are familiar with, eBay is another route you could take if you wish to sell your used or even new items.

Using your computer or mobile phone, you can upload an image of what you’ve got to sell, add in the details, and list your price.

Freelance

Freelancing covers a wide array of topics.

a desktop set up with 3 computers

When it comes to the internet you can offer your services and get paid to:

  • Transcription
  • Marketing/sales
  • Graphic design
  • Editing and proofreading
  • Teaching or tutoring
  • Data entry
  • Web design
  • Writing articles
  • and more

My friend Nick even created an entire article sharing his experiences freelancing and gives tips to give you the best chance to make more money online with freelancing.

A good way to begin your freelance work is to join a marketplace where you can promote your services where companies and individual business owners alike regularly are looking for a hand.

If interested in making some extra money, or potentially replacing your current income, you can do so and work remotely with freelancing.

Here are the top places we recommend starting.

10. Upwork

Essentially, Upwork is a job board where clients can post various projects or tasks that need to be done.

Freelancers can ‘bid’ on these projects in order to secure it.

At the end of each project, both the client and freelancer leave reviews of each other, obviously, the better the review for the freelancer, the easier it will become to find work in the future.

Interested in getting started? Create your Upwork profile here.

11. TaskRabbit

Upwork focuses more on tasks that can be completed strictly online.

TaskRabbit is a bit different. As a Tasker, you can get hired for local jobs in your area for people looking for handyman work, cleaning, furniture assembly, moving, delivery, personal assistant, and more.

If this is more your speed, you can learn more about TaskRabbit and see which jobs are available in your area.

You never know what you might find.

12. Fiverr

I’ve personally used Fiverr and Upwork numerous times in the past for help with my online business.

From logo designs to article writing, to things like keyword research, I’ve reached out to these sites to help me with specific tasks.

Fiverr is another popular one and gets its name because you can hire people for some tasks for as low as $5.

I’ve noticed this number usually goes up over time and freelancers will start charging more after graduating from a Level 1 seller to a level 2 seller and beyond.

You can learn more about Fiverr and get started here.

Online Jobs That Pay

Another good way to make money online from home is by seeking out an online job.

Don’t know where to start? Check the job boards!

13. Search Around

Job boards like Indeed, Monster, or ZipRecruiter are good places to start if an online job is something that interests you.

Once on these sites, I would use terms like “online jobs” or “work from home” to see which jobs come up.

From here you can read a description and see if any online jobs are available.

Do be cautious of scams when doing this.

No JOB should be asking for money in order for you to get started.

It’s common to pay for certain services online like online business training, where you pay to learn the ins and outs of an online business, but you shouldn’t be paying to work a job.

There’s a difference.

To avoid confusion, here are two places we recommend looking into for online work.

14. Leapforce

Leapforce offers $13/hr for search engine evaluators.

As a search engine evaluator, you evaluate search engines to determine if the results are relevant to the keywords or terms being typed in.

Your job is to determine the relevancy of the pages to the keywords.

This is important to search engines like Google or Yahoo because they want to provide people with the most accurate results.

Sure there are bots and algorithms in place that take care of this as well, but nothing can be more ensuring than the human eye, which calls for these type of jobs.

To qualify for this position, you will need to apply by entering your details, a resume, and take a test.

You can become a Leapforce agent here.

15. UserTesting

UserTesting is a job that requires you to carefully browse through various websites or apps while following specific instructions.

Companies want to see how user-friendly their apps/websites are and utilize services like UserTesting to get an understanding of how people interact with their business.

We’ve written an entire review on UserTesting explaining what it is you need to get started and how much you can earn.

Youtube

At #16 is Youtube.

I personally am not a fan of Youtube when it comes to one earning money for different reasons.

It’s flooded with creators and seems near impossible to stand out amongst so many, but there’s also the fact that you are at the complete mercy of Youtube.

a computer monitor showing the youtube's homepage

You don’t own the platform, you can easily get your channel “struck” down if you don’t abide by their rules, amongst other issues.

Not to mention, you’re going to need lots and lots of views in order to see any real income.

But there are two sides to every coin.

On the plus side, I realize the potential for youtube creators.

I think a smart move would be to use Youtube as a tool for your business, and not make Youtube your business itself.

If you’ve been on the fence about joining Youtube then have a listen to this: “Why You Shouldn’t Be a Youtuber“.

What they’re saying doesn’t apply to just Youtube but sites like Facebook, Instagram, etc.

You see many people with thousands or even millions of followers get shut down.

A way to avoid this is by creating your own platform, or online business, but using sites like Youtube as a tool to help you grow your business.

How you earn with Youtube, for those unfamiliar, is that after creating a channel, you will need to get a certain amount of subscribers and views on your videos before you can join the partner program.

With the partner program, you get a share of the ads shown on your videos, the more ads viewed, and the more clicks on these ads means the more money you can earn.

You can get a better idea of how much money a Youtube video makes here.

Online Business

Just like there are various ways to make extra money online, there are various online business models in existence.

Ranging from ads to affiliate marketing to selling your own online courses, there are lucrative ways to create an income for yourself from home.

We share our top 6 online business models here.

For the past couple of years, I’ve made a living using solely my laptop and internet connection.

I’ve been able to support a family and choose the hours I work in this way, and it still blows my mind.

But, starting an internet business is not like hiring on to a job somewhere. It’s slow going and you won’t get paid for the work you do right away.

It’s business, after all.

You do the hard work upfront and see the results (income) after.

If you’re in need of money NOW, then online business may not be right for you.

If you can spend a minimum of 10 hours dedicated to an online business each week, then this may be the path for you.

I would like to personally help you get started and be your guide along the way should you ever need help or have any questions.

The best place to connect with me is inside of Wealthy Affiliate.

In order to get started you will need to choose a niche, build a website, and I highly recommend training to help you get everything set up.

This is where Wealthy Affiliate comes in as they provide all of the things listed above and so much more.

You can learn more about WA and see if this path of online business is right for you.

  • Reyhana says:

My husband is a handyman and I a looking at TaskRabbit. I wanted to share it with him so he can get more work from clients directly (he is working with a company rightnow).

However, at the sign up page, there is a space to enter “ZIP CODE”. I am in Canada. Is TaskRabbit only available to American residents?

    Your help is greatly appreciated.

    • Jason says:

I would try entering the zip code and seeing if any tasks pop up for your area!

If not, I am sure there are similar apps or services available in Canada.
