Starting with affiliate marketing in today’s age is easy enough.
There’s lots of info out there to help you get started, and building an affiliate marketing website is WAY easier to do than in years prior.
Succeeding with affiliate marketing is another story.
I’ve seen many fail at this business but I’ve also had the chance to meet very successful affiliates who have been in this industry for years.
For those who “make it” or are able to make careers out of affiliate marketing, they share a few common traits.
For those who fall short, there’s usually a few reasons for this including: having the wrong mindset, selling over helping, or forcing the process.
We’ll touch base on what makes or breaks people in this extremely popular business model just below.
Can You Make Money With Affiliate Marketing?
To answer the question “can you make money with affiliate marketing”, Yes.
I truly believe just about anyone can.
It all starts with having the right mindset and realization that this is a business and not some quick way to becoming one of the wealthiest people on Earth.
Businesses, whether on the internet or offline, will require a commitment of time and effort.
There’s no way around it if you truly wish to succeed.
Speaking of success, there are a few things you will need in order to make it in this business, and a few things you need to avoid.
Turning your affiliate marketing website into a business that will generate an income for you, month after month, could depend on proper training.
If you’re just getting started, even better…
Depends On Finding Quality Help
If you’ve been searching for ways or actively working on an internet business for any amount of time, you will notice it can’t be a lonely and confusing road.
This is why I always recommend noobs or people who haven’t quite made it with their online business, to seek out proper training.
I’m not claiming that you need to become a ‘certified expert’, because you don’t.
But you should seek out information or places that can provide you with more than just the basics.
Places like Warrior Forum, Youtube, or even a search on Google may be enough to help you get started with online business, but eventually, you’re going to come to a crossroads.
(Relying on such resources could lead to frustration, confusion, lack of support, and giving up).

Depends On Avoiding These Mistakes
Your success also depends on avoiding these mistakes commonly made by newbies.
1. Having The Wrong Mindset
Affiliate marketing is not a means to “striking it rich” within only a matter of months.
It is the wrong approach made by many who enter this business.
I don’t know whether the blame should be on the many low-value products who scheme people into thinking they can make tens of thousands of dollars overnight, or if it’s because people are lazy.
Either way, if you are in search for ways to make fast money, with little to no effort, then affiliate marketing may not be for you.
Change your mindset and point of view about affiliate marketing.
As we shared before, you can make money with affiliate marketing. Lots of it.
But this won’t happen right away.
Just change your mindset, attitude, and point of view about affiliate marketing and you will be all set.
2. Selling VS Helping
Another common mistake is being eager to sell rather than connecting your audience (people visiting your website), with helpful, beneficial products and services.
I’ve been guilty of this myself.
Early on, one of the first things I did after creating a website was to ensure that I had a storefront with a list of things people could buy. With my affiliate links ready to be clicked on.
This approach made no sense as I am not a storefront with tons of products to promote, I’m an affiliate.
The better approach is to create content revolving how product X can benefit the person visiting my website. Going into full detail.
Not just a random list of products for sale because I wanted to make money.
Who’s that helping? Myself or my readers?
As an affiliate, your job is to help people by promoting products that will bring value to your readers, or something they will enjoy.
Either way, you should focus on how YOUR READERS will benefit, and not yourself.
Help people by telling them why they may need the product, don’t leave out the pros and cons, and give the true picture.
This can be products you yourself uses or have used in the past.
If you’re looking for a quick buck you can try making false claims, leave out potential issues of the product, and do whatever is needed in order to make a sale.
This won’t get you too far in this business.
Focus on building trust and guiding your readers if you wish to succeed.
3. Forcing The Process
Just like having the wrong mindset and choosing to sell over help, in an attempt to make a quick buck, forcing the entire process rather than believing in the work you set out to do, can break your business.
Starting an affiliate marketing business is a timely process.
It can be very rewarding, however, for those who are patient and willing to take the right steps.
To this day, I see many people who choose to take shortcuts.
People who do this usually don’t last long in this business and move on by chasing the next great opportunity. This is known as shiny object syndrome.
This is usually due to a lack of patience and they want to see results now!
Shortcuts include advertising low-value products, or many many products, in hopes to make money quicker. Or just putting low-quality content out there.
What they forget is that there are real people who will be visiting their website.
People can tell when their being sold to rather than when they come across a piece of helpful content.
It’s a turn-off and they will just move on to the next website.
Forcing your business into success won’t work.
You have to be patient, offer quality content, and focus on helping others.
You can’t force a successful affiliate marketing website.
You can put our tips in place above if interested in truly earning money as an affiliate.
Conclusion – Can You Really Make Money With Affiliate Marketing?
Yes. Take the steps shared above and you will be on your way.
It’s not a race, but a process rather.
Those who are well accomplished in this industry took the time to study, learn, and even try in most cases the products they recommend to their readers.
They offer helpful content, and they avoid shortcuts.
