Affiliate Marketing, Does It Work In 2019?

affiliate marketing does it work

Affiliate marketing works and its here to stay,
I’ll show you why I say this with 100% confidence.

Recently, we’ve taken a look if affiliate marketing was right for beginners and also, we explored the best affiliate marketing training currently available to you.

Today, I would like to show a few personal examples of how affiliate marketing works and even examples of the income that can be made as an affiliate.

By the end of this post, it is my hope that you have a firm understanding of how affiliate marketing works and the potential behind this popular, exciting business model.

Affiliate Marketing, Does it Work?

Yes. Some things you want to keep in mind, however, is that affiliate marketing is not some scheme to get rich quick online.

It is still a business.

One that requires certain skills and know-how to become successful at.

The good news is that there are some really good training platforms online that can help you become a successful affiliate.

Our #1 recommended platform can be found here.

Is Affiliate Marketing Dead?

I remember back in 2015 when first being introduced to affiliate marketing. I would come across articles claiming that affiliate marketing was on the verge of dying.

The funny part of this is that the majority of these articles were written as far back as 2010.

Affiliate marketing is here to stay and has been steadily growing as an industry year after year.

In fact, it is projected to grow to over 6.8B by the year 2020.

More Good News…

This just creates more opportunity for pretty much anyone interested in becoming an affiliate or interested in earning income online.

Affiliate programs are constantly updating their platforms to capture the interest of new “partners” or affiliates. Likewise, they seem to be making it easier for affiliates to promote their products.

Take the Amazon tool Site Stripe for example. It’s a simple tool yet effective and convenient for their affiliates.

The takeaway here is that companies and merchants love to have affiliate marketing programs.

This is because of the “pay for performance” model. Typically affiliates don’t earn any money unless a sale is made. Companies and merchants don’t have to pay the affiliate unless results, such as a sale, are accrued.

The cost of paying several affiliates a certain percentage per sale can be much more cost-efficient than hiring an ad executive and marketing team for $100,000’s (if not millions) in hope of results.

So again, affiliate marketing is not dead. In fact, I encourage anyone interested in earning a consistent income online to get on board and start learning how to be a successful affiliate now.

Affiliate Marketing in Action

Here is a small example of affiliate marketing in action from EPO, the website you are currently on.

These are the monetary results of a single article written about a year ago:

If you total up the conversions or sales, there is about 14 of them.

The total paid comes to about $250.

Now, you would be right in thinking that $250 over the course of a year is nothing to gawk about.

But keep in mind that this is a single 1300 word article that I wrote a year ago. It took me about 4 hours to write.

I have continued earning from it month after month since April of this year.

Aside from writing the single article and getting it ranked on the first page of Google, I haven’t done a single thing to it since hitting publish.

I haven’t created any other articles promoting this particular company as an affiliate or shared it anywhere else really.

Yet this single article continues to send people to the merchant’s website and if they decide to take any action, I earn money as an affiliate.

It’s about as passive as it gets.

Imagine creating 100’s or 1000’s of articles that earn like this. Not every article will rank in Google or do as well as the next, but creating articles like the one above has helped me to earn a full-time income from this website alone.

You can learn the same steps I took to get started and earn by expressing your own ideas within any business ‘topic’ of your choice.

I hope the small example above helped shed some light on the opportunities that exist within the affiliate marketing world.

Pros And Cons Of Affiliate Marketing

First, let’s take a look at some of the cons of affiliate marketing.

Cons:

  • It’s not a get rich quick business. I don’t know of any legitimate ones that exist
  • As an affiliate, you only earn a certain percentage per sale whereas if you created your own products you could earn full commission
  • There are some bad affiliate programs out there. Always ensure you do your research before joining an affiliate program to ensure you will get paid and not left in the wind.

Pros:

  • Getting started is affordable
  • There’s no limit or “cap” to how much you can earn as an affiliate
  • There are ENDLESS companies to work with and products to choose from
  • It’s free to join affiliate programs and sale the companies products
  • You don’t need to invent or currently own ANY products to be an affiliate
  • Anything customer service related (returns, refunds, shipping, etc.) is done by the merchant
  • You can work from home or wherever you are most comfortable with wifi access

The Basics And Becoming A Successful Affiliate

The basics of affiliate marketing are simple.

However, becoming a true success and earning a regular income from home is not so simple. The biggest “make or break” for those who become successful at affiliate marketing is those who are patient enough to see their business through.

It takes time to create a brand new website/business from scratch to getting actual people on that website interested in buying some of the things you are selling.

It’s a process.

I’ve heard of affiliate businesses earning $10,000 per month within its first year, businesses going from a couple hundred dollars per month to $15,000 monthly in its third year (this particular business is now making $90,000/mo), and I’ve heard of affiliate marketing claiming to not have made a single dollar after a full year.

One of the most fundamental things to remember when creating an affiliate business, or any online business for that matter, is that there will be actual people visiting your website.

There’s no need to sound like a robot or worry about writing or being perfect. Just be yourself and create helpful, thoughtful content for your audience.

    Hello Jason,

Thank you very much for sharing this inspiring article with me. I know very well that affiliate marketing is never dead, its still working. But my problem has been having patient working towards what I want to achieve.

It is as though I am trying to behave as though its possible to get rich overnight. I know that if I do not give up but work extra hard towards what I plan to achieve, surely I will see some success.

Thank you very much for inspiring me.

    • Jason says:

      Thank you for sharing, Stephen.

What you just explained to me above about wanting to sort of see ‘instant’ results only makes you human. lol.

It sounds like you have the right mindset moving forward, however. There are no shortcuts to success. It takes time in commitment to achieve “big” things in anything you do. Still trying to get there myself 🙂

      Good luck Stephen.

  • Marshall says:

Thanks for the interested post. I totally agree with you that creating something online that is paying you a passive income stream is totally worth it! What advise would you give someone who is just starting out in affiliate marketing? Is there something that you know now that you wish you knew when you started out?

    • Jason says:

Hi Marshall, what advice would I give? Great question.

I would tell someone who was seriously interested in succeeding as an affiliate marketer to not expect too much too soon.

Just like any other business out there it takes time. Don’t skip over the fundamentals and pace yourself learning how the process works.

Next up, forget about the money.

People go into business to make money but this usually comes only after one can offer people with helpful and reliable – products and information.

The only thing I would do differently is to not jump around from one opportunity to the next.

It wasn’t until I really sat down and focused, on one very good training course, did I begin to see results that I did not think were possible.
